KNOW THE INDIAN BANKNOTES

Banknotes (or simply Currency) plays a important role in our day to day life. Over the years we are using banknotes for our daily transactions, but do you ever know about the Indian Banknotes? What are the security features of Indian Banknotes? How to identify/know that security features? So here in this series of blog, we are going to know our banknotes.

Currency notes reflect the rich and diverse culture of our country. A new series of banknotes in a new design is issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 8 November 2016 to bring the country's identity closer to its cultural heritage as well as to showcase its scientific advances.
In terms of colour, size, and theme, the new design bank notes stand out from the current Mahatma Gandhi Series of bank notes. The new series notes focus on India's heritage sites.

Some new elements in these notes include Devnagari numerals and the Swachh Bharat logo. The new notes also feature design elements in a variety of complex forms and shapes.
While the security features in the current series of bank notes, such as the water mark, security thread, latent image of denomination numeral, denomination numeral in colour shifting ink, number panels, see through register, electro-type, bleed lines, and so on, remain, but their relative positions in the new design notes may have changed.

1. ₹10 Banknote:
The new ₹10 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series bear signature of the Governor, Reserve Bank of India. The note has motif of 'Sun Temple, Konark' on the reverse, depicting the country's cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is chocolate brown. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the observe and reverse.
The size of the new note is 63mm x 123mm.

The small floral design printed both on the front (hollow) and back (filled up) of the note in the middle of the vertical band next to the Watermark has an accurate back to back registration. The design will appear as one floral design when seen against the light.

This feature appears between the vertical band and Mahatma Gandhi portrait. This feature can be seen better under a magnifying glass.

        5. Windowed dematalised security thread with inscriptions 'भारत' and 'RBI':
The security thread appears to the right of the Mahatma's portrait.When the note is held against the light, the security thread can be seen as one continuous line.

The banknotes contain the Mahatma Gandhi and number watermark with a light and shade effect and multi-directional lines in the watermark window.

2. ₹20 Banknote:
The new ₹20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series bear signature of the Governor, Reserve Bank of India. The note has motif of the Ellora Caves on the reverse, depicting the country's cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Greenish Yellow. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the observe and reverse.
The size of the new note is 63mm x 129mm.

The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the observe and reverse.
The size of the new note is 66mm x 135mm.

The size of the new note is 66mm x 142mm.

The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the observe and reverse.
The size of the new note is 66mm x 146mm.

6. ₹500 Banknote:
The new ₹500 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series are different from the present series in colour, size, theme, location of security features and design elements.  The colour of the notes is stone grey and the predominant new theme is Indian heritage site - Red Fort. 
The size of the new note is 66mm x 150mm.

7. ₹2000 Banknote:
The Reserve Bank of India is introducing new design banknotes in the denomination of ₹2000 as part of Mahatma Gandhi(New) Series. The new denomination has motif of the Mangalyaan on the reverse, depicting the country's first venture in interplanetary space. The base colour of the note is magenta. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both on the obverse and the reverse. The size of the new note is 66mm x 166mm.
